Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK, and we welcome many ladies who are considering breast enlargement, breast uplift surgery or breast reduction surgery each year to Red Rose Desire.
For all those considering breast surgery, there are many decisions to make: what size, what shape, what implant style and warranty. One further area to consider when considering breast enlargement surgery will be your implant placement; either over the chest (pectoral) muscle or under the chest muscle. This is an important part of surgery and will play a large part in your new post-surgery look and shape.
During your first consultations with the surgeons, you will discuss the right options for you. There are several factors that may determine which implant placement is best for you, during your consultation our highly experienced surgeons will discuss with you the benefits and considerations of both procedures. Although breast augmentation is very popular, our aim is to ensure that each procedure is tailored to you as an individual patient, taking into consideration body shape, chest size, desires and personal expectations.
Here are the options;
Over the muscle (sub-glandular)

Details: Full and natural volume. Breast Augmentation using 450cc Implants Over the Muscle by Mr Sharif.
Placed under the breast tissue and above the chest muscle, this is a very popular option. A slightly less invasive procedure as only the breast tissue and skin are affected, not the chest muscle, meaning that recovery can be quicker and less painful. If you are looking to enhance existing breast tissue then it’s possible to use larger implants when placed over the chest muscle, also, by placing the implants closer together, an enhanced cleavage is created; desired by many of our ladies.
If you are athletic and enjoy sport activities, then this may be the better choice for you as your implant won’t interfere with the chest muscle when it is worked.
The sub-glandular technique creates a more rounded look; preferable for some patients but not for patients hoping for a more natural look; this is a purely personal choice.
As the implant is above any muscle, there is only skin supporting the implants and so you may have a slightly higher chance of experiencing skin rippling or stretch marks, although these can settle over time.
One final consideration for the sub-glandular technique is during a Mammogram it can be tricky to clearly see all of the breast tissue, so extra images may need to be taken; some ladies find this procedure uncomfortable.
Under the muscle (sub-muscular)

Details: Breast Augmentation using 450cc Implants Under the Muscle.
For this technique, the implant is placed partially under the chest muscle. This technique will be a perfect choice if you are hoping for a more natural look, as the implant is covered by breast tissue and muscle.
An added benefit of this technique is that it causes less strain on the skin surrounding the breast as the muscle helps support the implant – although there can be extra time to consider post operatively.
There is also less chance of rippling of the skin as again the implant sits under the muscle and protects the area where the implant meets the skin. The occurrence of Capsular Contraction is also reduced and any interference of the implant at Mammograms is less of a problem.
If you are thinking of having more surgery in the future to further enhance your body, this technique lowers the risk of interrupting the blood supply to the nipple.
So, there are lots of positives for you to consider. A few things you should think about before opting for the sub-muscular technique is that the surgery required is slightly trickier; possibly causing some pain, and recovery time may be longer due to the more invasive surgery procedure. Our post-surgery care team will assist you throughout and provide any necessary pain-relief or after care.
If you are a particularly active person, you may notice your implant change shape slightly when you exercise the upper body muscles, but for daily activities you shouldn’t notice any change.
Until the chest muscle relaxes your new breasts may sit a little high, but this will lessen as the muscles relax post surgery and your breasts settle into their perfect positioning.

We will of course take great care of you during your time with us. Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular and commonly performed cosmetic surgeries here at Red Rose Desire and involves increasing or enhancing your breast, often referred to as a breast enlargement or ‘boob job’.

In the past, these implants were recommended to last 10 years and so a replaced implant or second breast surgery is referred to as a breast re-augmentation.
Occasionally we see ladies who following surgery, either immediately or after some time, feel dissatisfied, uncomfortable or disappointed with the size of their breast augmentation, mostly as they yearn to go bigger or less often, smaller.
We offer a free consultation so that we can listen and work with you to make sure that you are selecting the best shape and size to enjoy the body you deserve.
Breast Augmentation – your initial surgery
Breast augmentation surgery focuses on enhancing your breast shape and size; usually involving a breast implant to be placed on top of your breast tissue or under the chest muscle. As part of your surgery you may also have nipple realignment and/or a breast lift procedure. Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that will alter the shape of your breasts, requiring your body, tissue and skin to adapt to a new larger, firmer shape.
Your surgeon and care team will work hard to ensure that your surgery journey is unique to you, meaning that your result meets your goals and expectations, and is as you discussed during your initial consultations.
There are a range of implants to choose from, all in different shapes and sizes. This is important to understand so that you can work with your surgeon to find the most suitable for you and your body shape.
Why might I need re-augmentation surgery?

Your breast augmentation surgery is specific to you and outcomes vary between patients; what is perfect for one lady is not always desirable for another. What shouldn’t vary though is your wish to feel confident and body perfect, and our surgeons are skilled in working with you to ensure you get the best fit for you and your expectations.
Not everyone will require revision surgery, but it is a procedure some patients choose, to re-size or amend procedures performed elsewhere or over time. Breast re-augmentation will focus on the removal and replacement of your breast implants, with or without a replacement implant.
Causes and corrections
There are a few reasons you may feel you need further surgery. At Red Rose we are here to work with you and find the procedure that is perfect for you and will give you the results that you are looking for.
Common concerns for re-augmentation surgery are rippling or firmness of the breast tissue and skin that alter the natural look of your breasts. Over time our bodies naturally change size and shape; possibly following childbirth, breast feeding, weight loss or natural ageing, and this can result in an increase or decrease in breast size or shape; drooping or asymmetry causing an undesirable imbalanced look. New implants can be increased or decreased in size to remove any skin rippling or firmness, along with realigning implants to correct any asymmetry.
You may find, following your breast augmentation surgery and recovery time, that your breast shape and/or size are not hitting the mark that you had hoped for and expected; breast size revision surgery can correct this and help you achieve your desired size.
Although implants do not have a lifespan or remove-by date, you may be experiencing some implant deflation. This problem is easily rectified by replacing your implant.
Continuously body confident
There are no guarantees to a specific surgical outcome for your breast augmentation, even following your detailed consultation sessions with your surgeon and care team, you may still find that over time you want to revisit your initial breast implant results to ensure you continue to experience the body confident feeling you deserve.

One thing we get asked a lot at Red Rose Desire is why your initial consultation is necessary.
Our Patient Coordinator Georgina explains how not all consultations are created equal and why it is crucial for you to attend at least one.
Free Cosmetic Surgery Consultation.
When you have your first consultation, it is natural to have a lot of questions. Our consultations are designed to give you the answers you need.
“That first meeting with a patient during their first consultation is the first step on their transformation journey, the time spent is so important, and extremely thorough!” says Georgina, “Nobody ever leaves a consultation here disappointed – and they always feel like they’ve benefitted by meeting the surgeon, and discussing the procedure and most importantly the results that can be achieved. The fact is, even if others are offering consultations, our consultations are better – because you just don’t get the same time elsewhere.”

We always book out 30 minutes for an initial consultation.
This includes time with our specialist surgeons, and time with one of our patient coordinators. Come and meet the team.
Georgina says: “ When we first meet with you, we want to understand your goals and feelings. Our aim is to tailor this journey just for you, and to discuss your expectations. First, you can meet with your chosen surgeon, on a one to one basis to discuss the procedure, shape and size. This first meeting allows you to bond and get to know your surgeon”.
“We will take measurements, talk size and desired results and look (if applicable) at implant brands, sizes and shapes. The surgeon can answer any questions or concerns you might have and will chat with the patient about all of the options,” Georgina advises.
“Following the time with the surgeon, you are then able to discuss costs, payment options, finance, and aftercare with me. I’ll provide information about the sequence of appointments required and what to expect throughout the treatment.” Georgina can offer first-hand advice about this, and can also share many other patient stories and before and after images with you, which can often help to give you a better understanding of what can be achieved. “I’ve had surgery myself, so I’m a great person to answer questions you might have” Georgina assures.
This means that during that initial consultation, you will leave feeling we have helped you make a decision about what you’d like to go ahead with. What’s more, we always welcome our clients back for a second consultation if this is needed, “there is no limit, we know this is a bid decision and we are here for you” advises Georgina.

Naturally after you’ve left us and thought more about what treatment you’d like to have, more questions arrive. There are also occasions where you have had a check-up with your GP before commencing treatment and we need to review that. Either way, this second appointment gives us all a chance to review your treatment plan before we start.
We often welcome patients who would like to bring in someone with them to their next appointment – as a second pair of eyes or ears – or simply a list of questions about what we discussed last time.
This initial time ensures that you won’t find any hidden costs along the way – and you have all the information you need to make an informed choice about your treatment before you begin your surgery journey.

What is the Difference Between Round and Teardrop Implants?
For many women, choosing breast augmentation surgery is a life-changing, exciting and very personal journey. In order to achieve your desired shape and reach your personal goals it a good idea to have a good look at the options available and the possible outcomes to enhance your breast surgery.
Your breast implant choice is an important decision, personal to you, so it is important to explore and fully understand the options available to help you choose your desired look.

What implant shapes are available?
There are two breast implant shapes available and at your consultation, your cosmetic surgery team will discuss with you the options available, incorporating your desired shape and look that you are hoping to achieve. Both styles are available in gel-filled or saline-filled form and a range of sizes. Your breast surgeon will suggest the best implant for your body shape, chest width, and your build.
What results will a round implant give?
Round implants are the most common choice for breast augmentation by cosmetic surgeons in the UK; approximately 85% of breast enlargement surgery is performed using a round implant. This popular shape achieves a fuller breast, creating an upper fullness in the breast; a distinct round appearance. Best suited to ladies who have existing breast tissue and are looking for a fuller or curvier look, emphasising the natural shape that you already have.
No tears for the teardrop implant

Teardrop implants are a very popular choice and as the name suggests the implants are shaped like a teardrop with more fullness in the lower half of the implant; creating a smooth tapered contour of the breast. Gently sloping from the breastbone to the nipple, teardrop implants are suitable for you if you have a slim or petite body-frame, lacking in natural breast tissue but would like a more natural look.
Which implant profile is right for me?
Breast profile is the projection of the breast from the chest wall. The ideal profile differs from patient to patient, but it is a good idea to consider whether you are hoping to achieve a fuller and rounder look, or a subtle and more natural look. There are varying degrees of profile size for implants, ranging from low profile to high profile with various profile possibilities in between. At your consultation together with our surgeons, you will take measurements of your chest and taking into consideration your body frame and proportions to help in the decision-making process for choosing the level of profile that is recommended for you.

Together with our surgeons, you can decide which is the best implant for your body shape and the different brands we support.

Your time to feel body confident.
As the warm weather approaches, and we keep getting those glorious sunshine days, our thoughts rapidly turn to holidays, BBQ’s and summer time.
Choosing swimwear can be a stressful time, especially if you have recently had breast implants, breast enlargement surgery or a breast uplift. You’re a different shape and size since the last time you looked for swimwear and are probably unsure of how to find a suit that makes you feel most confident, or fits your new breast shape.
Here we speak with Rhian Williams, a Red Rose Desire patient who had breast enlargement surgery on the 19th December 2018.
She shares her love of underwear, and recommends the best places to find swimsuits for larger breasts.
Hi Rhian, thank you for joining us today, you look stunning.
Can you tell us more about your surgery, and what impact your surgery has had on your body confidence?
I’m absolutely in love with my new boobs. So many people have complimented me! They look so natural which is what I wanted! I talked through my options with the surgeon and we agreed on 450cc implants under the muscle, they fit my frame perfectly.
My healing time wasn’t too bad, and I cannot fault anything about my surgery and after care.
I now have a lot more confidence in myself, and I feel more womanly.

Do you have plans to go away for the summer?
YES! I have booked to go away, and I can’t wait. I am going away in July for 2 weeks to Tenerife.
Can you offer any advice on the best places to shop for gorgeous swimwear/beachwear – for ladies with larger boobs?
I love halter neck tops as they offer me more support, but still with a feminine style. I also always try to choose tops that fastens with clips rather than just tie, and with thicker straps, which is also great for the extra support.
I have to say Ann summers have some beautiful bikinis, which fit really well, and I also definitely recommend H&M and also Primark.
What is your best swimwear buying tip?
Don’t stress! choosing swimwear is very much like buying underwear, and often the same shops you buy gorgeous bra’s from, also sell bikinis too, in similar styles and shapes you already know and love. Stay clear of string or flimsy bra’s, they won’t offer you enough definition or support. Knowing which type of bra you like the most can help you narrow down which swimwear to choose.
Thank you to Rhian for taking time out to speak with us, we are thrilled to see you looking so happy and we wish you lots of years of body confidence! Look out for more Q&A sessions with our patients in the future, and feel free to contact us, if you would like to feature.

Increase in Number of Males Opting For Liposuction.
Even if you have a closely followed combination of a balanced healthy diet and regular exercise to keep in shape, you can still suffer with areas of stubborn pockets of fat that can be difficult to move or tone.
Liposuction is an increasingly popular cosmetic surgery procedure as it permanently removes excess fat cells from the body. It is a widely used surgical procedure and is considered a safe and reliable choice for permanent fat removal. Liposuction surgery is becoming increasingly popular amongst men to target the problem areas that are proving difficult to correct through diet and exercise, along with the variety of contouring techniques available to provide patient specific results.
Liposuction surgery can be performed on most areas of the body, for men it is most commonly performed on the; chin and neck, chest, upper arms, stomach, outer and inner thigh, buttocks and knees. We want you to ensure, if considering liposuction surgery, that you opt for a practice that has qualified and experienced Surgeons who will offer you a result, tailored to you. Red Rose Desire offer carefully selected NHS registered surgeons, who specialise in these procedures.

How Does Liposuction Work?
Liposuction surgery breaks down and removes excess fat from common problem areas of the body.
Performed under general anaesthetic, a very small incision (or incisions) are made into the skin and by inserting a hollow tube (cannula), the fat is loosened and broken down. A syringe is then used to suck out the fat removing it from the body, and this technique is important for your size and shape.
The points of incision will then be stitched closed; as the incisions are small there should be little or no visible scaring. By targeting these problem areas your surgeon can remove unwanted excess fat cells, enhance your body’s natural shape, refine body contour and create a balanced and well-proportioned, firmer look. This is always pre-agreed in line with your desires and expectations.
What Can I Expect To Lose?
Although not a “quick fix” solution to weight loss; surgery alone will not reduce how much you weigh, if your skin has good elasticity, you are already at or near your ideal weight, in good health and taking regular exercise but still finding it hard to remove unwanted fat from the problem areas mentioned earlier, then you may find liposuction is a great option for you.
Performing male liposuction can be a little more difficult than female liposuction as male fat is denser in texture and more adherent to the muscle layer. Because it is more resistant male fat can be harder to extract and may not suction out as softly or smoothly as female fat; it is possible that less fat is removed because of this. Your surgeon will discuss this in great detail and of course work through your options, during a complimentary consultation. You can book a complimentary consultation here.
What Happens After Surgery?
Initially after surgery, you may notice some discomfort and it is common to experience some swelling and bruising, but this will steadily disappear over a period of around one month.
As the swelling and inflammation eases some lumpiness and deep bruising may still be visible; in some cases, it may take six to twelve months for the swelling to completely settle and the full effect of the liposuction can be seen. Your surgeon may advise you wear a compression bandage; this will help maintain pressure to the area, stop any bleeding, supress swelling and helps keep the new body contours created during surgery. The compression bandage should be worn day and night for four to six weeks.
As a precaution from possible infection you might be prescribed Antibiotics and you will need to keep your wounds clean and protected as instructed by your surgeon.
Is Aftercare Included?
Postoperative aftercare is an important part of your recovery process and it is important that you treat your body well in this respite period. Recovery is usually quick and although not pain-free, the pain you experience should be manageable with over-the-counter pain-relief medications. Depending on the extent of your surgery, generally you should be able to return to work within a few days and within a couple of weeks you will be back up to your normal pace; more extensive surgery may take a slightly longer recovery time, this will be advised by your surgeon.
For all patients, it is important to avoid any overly strenuous activity for 10-12 weeks and that you start all activity post-surgery gently.
Your care and support team will be available in the days, weeks and months after surgery and a series of appointments will be made to monitor recovery and progress.
