Nearly 30,000 cosmetic surgery procedures are performed in the UK alone each year, on various body parts, for a whole host of different reasons. From familiar surgeries like breast uplifts and breast reductions, tummy tucks, liposuction and face lifts, to the somewhat less known surgeries like labiaplasty, eye bag removal and male breast reduction.

People from all walks of life, backgrounds and ages groups desire to change parts of their body for many different reasons. These include;
- To reduce pain
- To tighten skin from aging
- To tighten skin from losing weight
- To look younger
- Sex and gender reassignment
- To remove signs of aging like wrinkles and bags
- To remove excess fat
- To increase an area’s size
- To simply look and feel better
- And many more health and mental health issues
There is no right or wrong reason to want plastic surgery and we consult 1000’s of men, women and transitioning people each year who are all hoping that surgery will improve their life, for their own personal reasons.
What most of them want to know initially; Am I the right candidate for cosmetic surgery?
Each and every surgical procedure will have specific guidelines and requirements for the candidates. For instance, if you’re looking to get the more natural looking breast augmentation / enlargement with fat transfer (instead of breast implants), you will have to have the correct shape, size and amount of excess fat to remove and replace. If you want liposuction, you’ll have to have the fat there to remove and also have tried to lose the weight naturally first.

There are also health requirements for plastic surgery too, and ordinarily candidates have to be in good health if they want surgery. Certain attributes that can make a person a bad candidate for plastic surgery are;
- Being under 18
- Having serious health issues such as high blood pressure, heart disease, bleeding disorders, diabetes and more
- Smoking, drinking too much alcohol, taking certain legal or illegal drugs
- Suffering from depression, anxiety and other mental health illnesses
Although the physical requirements are of course important, we feel that mental requirements are just as important too. Some questions you may want to ask yourself if you are interested in plastic surgery are;
- Why do I want plastic surgery?
- What do I want to change about myself and why?
- Who am I having the surgery for? (It should always be for yourself!)
- Is the surgery going to change my life / help the way i’m feeling?
- How long have I wanted this surgery for?
- What are my expectations of the surgery?
- Are my surgical goals reasonable?
Knowing why you want plastic surgery, knowing what you’re hoping to achieve by having surgery and being realistic in your expectations, will all help you and your surgeon determine whether plastic surgery is right for you.
Any reputable plastic surgeon or plastic surgery company in the UK should offer free, in depth consultations to discuss the health, physical and mental requirements for each surgery candidate and patient. This is a chance to speak openly and honestly with a professional and ask all the questions you need, as well as answer them from the surgeon too. There should be no obligation, as your surgeon should always put your mental and physical well being first.
If you’re ready to speak to a surgeon about being the right candidate for plastic surgery, and would like to book a consultation, please feel free to contact us via phone, email or the website.

Sometimes we wish time would move faster, especially in periods like now when we look to a virus free life where we can hug our relatives again. Ordinarily, I think most of us would wish for time to move slower, especially when we think of our bodies! With time and age, comes some unexpected and often undesirable changes. For ladies and our breasts for instance, we may have had children, lost significant weight, or simply gravity has taken hold. Here at Red Rose Desire, the Breast Uplift (Mastpexy) is performed regularly by our very skilled surgeons, on women who would like to uplift and transform their sagging breasts into more youthful and perky bust.

What is a breast uplift?
The breast uplift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and reshapes sagging, deflated breasts to give them a natural, perky appearance, without having to change their size. This differs from procedures we provide such as breast reduction, where we decrease the size of the breasts by removing excess skin, tissue and fat, or breast enlargement where we increase the size of the breasts by either inserting silicone cohesive gel implants, or by using fat deposits from other areas of the body.
Breast uplift surgery can be performed with the additional use of breast implants, depending on what result you are looking for. If you do not have the volume to do the procedure without implants, or if you simply desire more volume and bigger breasts, then you might decide you want the implants in addition to the uplift. Our surgeons will focus all aspects of the breast uplift procedure and the options open to you, specifically on your individual needs and desires.
What is the procedure?
Typically, a breast uplift procedure here at Red Rose will involve our skilled surgeons making several incisions to remove any unwanted, loose skin from the breast tissue and then repositioning the nipple so the breasts sit higher on the chest. You will be under general anesthetic for roughly 1.5-3 hours.
Recovery time varies depending on the patient and can be anywhere between 4-6 weeks or longer. We pride in providing you with the best post-op aftercare that we possibly can telling you what to expect, what steps to take, providing any required medication as well as an on-call nurse to help you through recovery and any issues you may encounter.
Who are breast uplifts for?
If you are happy and healthy but feeling a lack of confidence and body positivity due to the stretched skin of your sagging breasts, then you might be the right candidate for a breast uplift. Whether it is pregnancy, nursing, weight loss or simply time and gravity that has taken its toll on your breasts, this surgery could help elevate and reshape your breasts and the way you see and feel with them.
Want to go ahead with a breast uplift?
Why not come in for a complimentary consultation with one of our specialised breast surgeons to discuss everything from the process and procedure to your expectations and desires, answer any questions you may have and find out if you are the right candidate for the breast uplift procedure here at Red Rose Desire.

Searches for all types of cosmetic surgery abroad are on the rise, and millions of people travel thousands of miles each year to get plastic surgery procedures in a country other than their own. From liposuction in Lithuania and tummy tucks in Turkey to breast reductions in Poland and face-lifts in Thailand. Medical tourism has become a huge industry, with companies now offering holiday type packages that include everything from flights, accommodation and the surgery itself.
So why is surgery in Europe and abroad becoming popular, what’s the hype, is it worth it and most importantly, is cosmetic surgery abroad safe?

Why go abroad for plastic surgery?
Cost
Most people will initially look into surgery in Europe, or even further afield, for one main reason. Cost. It is said that it’s cheaper to get surgery abroad, and although that may be true when comparing the surgeries themselves, you have to work out the extra costs involved in getting the surgery overseas. From airport transfers, airport parking, flights, accommodation, food and drink, special medical travel insurance and more, whether you opt for a cosmetic surgery holiday package or not, it can end up costing you way more in the long run.
It isn’t just monetary cost, but the cost of your health too.
When it comes to your body and health, is the cheapest option the best? Is there a price on your body, or health?
For a holiday and surgery combined
Whilst these offers of sun, sangria and surgery may sound tempting, it’s good to be well informed of surgery abroad, and to research it thoroughly so you know what you are in for. Whilst you may have a nice holiday when you arrive, it’s important to know that after surgery, you can’t go back to lying around the pool with a cocktail, unfortunately! It’s not recommended to be in the sun following a surgical procedure, more so you should rest, recover and avoid much physical movement. It’s also highly advised to not drink alcohol so you’ll more than likely spend the rest of your holiday in the hotel room. You can’t fly home straight away to avoid this either as not waiting at least 6/7 days can put you at risk of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolisms and infection. Eeek!
What are the risks of having surgery abroad?
All cosmetic surgery comes with risks, wherever in the world you have it. It’s about choosing a surgeon and cosmetic surgery company that’s experienced, safe, accredited and professional.
What if things go wrong with surgery abroad?
This is one of the biggest issues when having surgery abroad. If anything does go wrong and you aren’t near home or english speaking healthcare professionals, you could be in trouble. You may have to stay out there longer to rectify any issues which will mean extra costs for extending hotels and flight changes. You also need to ensure that you have sufficient specialist cosmetic surgery insurance, as you wouldn’t want to be left to cover the huge hospital bills yourself, should something go wrong.
You don’t know or can’t meet your surgeon first
We think it’s important to know who your surgeon is, and to know that you are in the safest hands when going under the knife. Our surgeons are all extremely high-skilled, registered and fully respected and accredited in their field. Can you be sure that the surgeon is legit before you book your surgery abroad?
Cleanliness standards and risks of infection
Many hospitals and surgeries across the world have high healthcare standards, like us in the UK. But many, especially in developing countries for instance, do not. It’s imperative that your surgery is carried out in the most sterile environment possible, to reduce the risk of infection. It’s definitely good to know where you will be having the surgery, so you can make sure it’s up to standards.
Post op travel after surgery abroad
When getting surgery in the UK, you will probably be home within a few hours after surgery, where you can rest and recover in the safety of your own home and space. That’s what your body needs, for a few days and even weeks, depending on the surgery you have.
Jumping on crowded transport and planes for extended periods of time, in discomfort, could put you at unnecessary risk.
Cosmetic surgery aftercare
When having surgery abroad, unfortunately you aren’t able to get the correct and necessary aftercare, compared to companies like ours in the UK.
It’s probably the main difference between having surgery in the UK compared to abroad, and for us, the most important.
Whether you’re looking for breast implants, liposuction, a face-lift or rhinoplasty, although all common surgeries, they’re major and your body goes through a change and trauma. We feel the most important thing is to have your surgeon and healthcare professionals with you every single step of your surgical journey, especially afterwards. You’ll have post op questions, follow up appointments to remove stitches and check all is ok, and you’ll have ongoing advice and support at your disposal. We personally offer a lifetime aftercare programme, included as standard.
It’s simply not possible to receive this pre op and post op aftercare when you have surgery abroad, so you may have to seek additional advice here if something goes wrong.
Is it safer to get surgery in the UK or abroad?
We may be biased as we are in the UK, but many would agree that for UK residents, it is probably best to have surgery here on home soil. Of course there are many places around the world that have incredible standards and surgeons.
However, we feel cosmetic surgery isn’t just about the procedure itself, but about the pre and post op consultations and care. Knowing that you are looked after before, during and long after your procedure.

Breast reduction surgery is one of the top 2 most popular cosmetic surgeries in the UK, along with breast enlargement (augmentation). There were over 4,200 breast reduction surgeries performed across the UK in 2019 with a sharp rise in popularity of male breast reductions in recent years. This number is actually down by 7.5% from the previous year which I believe is attributed to our experienced surgeons ensuring a much larger focus on assessing patients’ mental and psychological health. We believe this is essential in our current climate where social media has driven a very sharp rise in people of all generations looking for a “quick fix”, so we are here to put you first and ensure you are the right candidate for our procedures. We will be the first to advise against a breast reduction if our surgeons feel it necessary.

Are you the right candidate for a breast reduction?
Large, disproportionate breasts can be damaging both physically and mentally, affecting your self-esteem as well as causing pain, discomfort and limitations on physical activities. You might be after the physical relief that will come with a breast reduction, the cosmetic improvement or both, but we usually try not to perform a breast reduction on breasts that are not yet fully developed. We want you to be fully aware and have an understanding of the procedure and the risks as well as managing your expectations before going ahead with any breast reduction surgeries.
Benefits of breast reduction surgery?
There are an array of benefits of breast reduction surgery which can differ from person to person, but these often include the alleviation of back, shoulder and neck pain, chafing and rashes, improving posture, removing discomfort, as well as having an incredibly positive impact on overall self-confidence and self-esteem. Long term benefits of breast reduction include having a larger choice of clothing, including swimwear and underwear, as well as the ability to take part in physical activities that you may have previously been unable to participate in.
What is a breast reduction procedure?
A breast reduction, mammoplasty or a ‘boob reduction’, is a cosmetic procedure which makes your breasts lighter and smaller whilst also improving their shape. This is done by our skilled cosmetic surgeons who will safely put you under general anaesthetic before making an incision on the areola (the dark area surrounding the nipple) and removing some of the fat, skin and breast tissue whilst also reshaping and repositioning your nipples so they are higher up, giving them a perkier, natural and more youthful look. You are essentially receiving a breast uplift in addition to the breast reduction.
The procedure should take around 2-4 hours and we will give you concise and dedicated aftercare to aid you in as swift a recovery as possible.

How long is recovery?
Recovery time for breast reduction surgery varies for everyone but we recommend taking time off work to rest. Our patients tend to recover within one to three weeks and we really recommend having someone there to help you in the first couple of days after the surgery if possible. You will have an on-call nurse should you require any help and we will provide you with all the aftercare information you need as well as any pain medication you might require too.
Are there any risks?
Just like all other operations and surgeries there are risks that can come with breast reductions such as infection or scarring. When you come in for a complimentary consultation with our specialist surgeons, they will happily talk you through all possible risks and complications so you are completely aware and fully informed before making the decision to go ahead with the procedure.
When choosing any surgery it’s important to appoint a company and surgeon that is reputable, accredited, experienced and trustworthy. Your body is invaluable and precious and the best way that you can reduce the risk of any issues is choosing the best people to take care of you, and your surgery, whilst also following any advice given.
Our surgeons will do everything in their power to reduce any risks as much as possible and will provide you with all the pre and post surgery advice required so you can also help to decrease these risks too. Alongside this is the lifetime aftercare we provide you with so you can feel safe and comfortable and we can be with you and support you every step of the way.
If you’re ready to speak to a surgeon about any surgery we offer, and would like to book a consultation, please feel free to contact us via phone, email or the website.

We are all stuck inside, many of us isolating, and with the dark winter dawning upon us, it all seems like doom and gloom out there.
Facing and working through these challenging times are not easy, and more so now that we are losing daylight, sunshine, and clear skies, which once during the summer months welcomed us to kick start our mornings. With the weather changing it is not as easy to sneak in a quick run or walk, whilst our days grow darker with less light, so does our enthusiasm, but we can stay active and productive, positive, and strong, we just need to look for other ways to keep feeling motivated and reaching those fitness goals, even in the dark, or indoors.

It does not have to mean that exercise is out the window completely, there are many things you can do to stay consistent in your fitness and well-being. Consider taking up a new sport, or switching it up indoors; try indoor cycling, great team or goal apps are available for download to keep you moving and to monitor distance covered targets to make it real and worthwhile.
Have you tried online yoga or Pilates? Incredible paired with deep breathing and great for full body strength and toning. Be sure to have a quiet place, and couple it with a moment to recollect your thoughts and deep relaxation.
Following inspired YouTube channels are up there this year; there has never been so many! and of all different levels, something for everyone.
Or simply put together a good strong home workout routine, one that works for you, including sit ups, press ups, squats, or jumps. You can even use basic home items to help you. Use a folding chair as a bench for tricep dips or fill a backpack for added weight, or tins or heavy objects as kettlebells. Skipping is an incredible way to keep fit, and inexpensive. While it is tempting to invest in equipment, it is not always necessary, and many items around the home can help.
It’s also just as important to not be complacent with your diet. It is very easy, whilst being at home to skip meals, avoid making the effort you would normally if you were going to work or university and we are guilty of ordering a lot more takeaways! Snacking and skipping meals will cause you to eat many more calories and so take the time to prep to plan the night before, as you would normally, so you are not tempted by the biscuit barrel!
As well as keeping fit and healthy, we also must understand the importance of down time, relaxation and taking a break. Some great ways to enjoy rest and relaxation are; reading a book or magazine, following a meditation or stretch class, getting into a good series or an uplifting podcast, or better still having an early night! It is crucial to find the balance between exercise, and health and rest.
Although these times are tough, there are so many available ways to steer your routine in the correct direction, so you feel you have achieving something with each day. Write a to-do list the night before, take some vitamins, try out a new workout regime and if possible, treat yourself to a yoga mat or resistance band to make yourself feel more motivated. Better times are coming!
