Tummy Tucks and Weight Loss.

Tummy Tucks and Weight Loss.

It is true to say that a women’s body can be found in all shapes and sizes, and what works for one, might not work for another.  It is also true to say that most people have different areas of their body that they like and some that they dislike.

Tummy’s are a hot topic in our office, as we often speak with patients who have worked so hard on weight loss, but struggle to move or remove stubborn areas around their middle.  This could be an overhang of stretched skin and fat, or stretch marks or post pregnancy sag.

Often our patients feel frustrated and fed up with their stomach, and are looking for a transformation or lasting improvement to help them sculpt and shape this last bit.  This is where a tummy tuck can help, with or without liposuction.

If you are currently on or have been on a weight loss journey, well done to you.
Tummy Tuck Surgery

If like many you are struggling with low hanging excess skin, a tummy tuck will transform your midriff to enhance your muscles and waistline.

Opting for a tummy tuck, your doctor will remove and cut out excess skin while also tightening abdominal muscles. Naturally, this will not give you six-pack abs, but it will make it easier for you to build abdominal muscles on your own through exercise in the future.

It is important to understand that this is not a weight loss treatment, but rather a way of repairing, tightening and sculpting abdominal muscles, and giving you back your waist. We know that the best candidates for surgery are patients near too their ideal weight, and so it is advisable to lose the extra weight before opting for tummy surgery.

Whether your overhang is caused by pregnancy, significant weight loss, or genetics, removing excess skin and tightening lax muscles can provide both physical and mental benefits.

While tummy tucks cannot guarantee the removal of stretch marks, it can often help; since the abdominal skin is pulled down, and some removed, any stretch marks can be lowered, or potentially removed if they are part of the lower excess skin.

Expect more than physical benefits following surgery.  Of course, you will need time to heal and recover and even a lifting hand those first few weeks – however, expect a more confident and happy you, as you choose new clothes to fit your new shape and you enjoy a stronger and leaner core.

Exercise after Breast Enlargement Surgery.

Exercise after Breast Enlargement Surgery.

If you are considering cosmetic surgery as someone who follows a regular fitness routine, it is important you know what to expect after surgery, and how much rest and repair you need.

Following a cosmetic breast augmentation procedure, many of our ladies are keen to get back to their pre-surgery fitness regime or return to the gym fairly quickly, which is normal.  We know, however, that going back to your normal exercise routines and workouts too soon after surgery can cause complications and hinder your recovery. It is important that you give your body time to recover carefully and slowly and that you follow the aftercare advice and support we will give to you during your consultations.

Rest and Recover

We advise our ladies to closely follow the advice provided by their breast surgeon and aftercare team regarding all post-operative exercise. Your consultant is best placed to advise you, given they have a full understanding of your pre-health, your surgery and your specific requirements post-surgery. By working closely with your aftercare team, you will ensure a smooth, trouble-free recovery that over time, can gently incorporate a return to your exercise and fitness regime, keeping you body confident and proud.

Feeling energised and alive from a good workout is great for body and mind, but however tempting it is to get back into the gym or run a few miles to burn calories and get the endorphins running, doing too much too soon can cause unwelcome complications.  Strenuous movements, or the repetitive up and down motion may cause your implants to move, altering their shape and symmetry. After surgery the tissue around the breast area will need to heal thoroughly over time. It is a possibility that if your breast tissue doesn’t heal properly the implant can move from its intended position and alter the appearance and shape of your new breast shape. Rigorous exercise can also cause bruising, soreness and swelling, setting your recovery on a backward step and causing you discomfort.

Taking the time to fully recover and heal is a vital part of your cosmetic surgery recovery programme and we encourage all our patients to embrace this time and let your body rest and slowly grow into its new shape.

Recommended Recovery Time

Giving your body and mind time to recover properly after cosmetic surgery is important and we recommend a minimum of six weeks before you return to any kind of physical exercise and a longer period of time for high intensity activity.  As part of the recovery process your body will form scar tissue, or capsule lining, around the implant (this is quite normal and is the body’s way of protecting itself from the object (your implant) that it doesn’t recognise). So, it is vital that during the first four to six weeks post-surgery that you don’t over-use the pectoral muscle and allow this healing process to gradually happen undisturbed. The complete healing process may take many months, but you should be able to gradually increase physical activity during this time.

What Exercise Can I Do?

Some forms of exercise are more active than others and the constant movement from fast or strenuous activity can put a strain on the upper body; exercising too soon or too aggressively after surgery will have an impact and can slow down your recovery period, or even lead to repeat or corrective surgery.

It is important to gradually reintroduce physical activity and exercise after your six-week recovery time post-surgery. Starting with low impact activities like walking, gentle stretching, Yoga and Pilates; these activities can help maintain a good level of fitness, muscle tone and mental well-being whilst not putting too much strain on large muscle groups, however, you may still need to modify some movements in the first few weeks you start your post-surgery exercises. Talking to your Fitness Instructor about your surgery is a great idea as they can help you adjust your usual fitness regime and exercises to protect your post-surgery body.
As the weeks progress, your strength returns and your healing is complete, it is possible for you to begin introducing higher impact exercise and activities. This should be a gradual process and a good supportive sports bra is crucial for maintaining your post-surgery shape long-term.

Protect and Support

Your breasts will need more support than you may have been used to previously, so it is important to ensure that you wear a good quality sports bra before participating in physical activity and exercise; it is always a good idea to be professionally fitted for bra’s at a specialist retail outlet; you may need help and advice to find the right bra to fit your new and wonderful shape.
With the extra weight from the implants, it’s so important to wear a good supportive is bra when exercising to avoid causing stretching of the skin or stretch marks around the breast area.
Wearing the right type of fully supportive sports bra is crucial to keeping your cosmetic surgery results long-term, along with providing the added benefits of comfort and support.

The New You Can Enjoy Exercise

Here at Red Rose Desire we want you to enjoy your new body shape and understand that many of our ladies are keen to return to their normal pre-surgery lifestyle. What Determines Breast Shape?

What Determines Breast Shape?

Breast Enlargement Options
Breasts come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. We believe that there is one pair of breasts for each person…as unique to you as your fingerprint.
Although some look and feel similar, all breasts are shaped slightly different and there are many factors that determine your breast type, especially your size. No, there is not a perfect size or shape, and no, there is no such thing as perfectly symmetrical breast either!  Although surgery can come pretty darn close.
Here we look at 3 factors that determine breast shape and size and how important genetics are to the story.

Your Weight

A large proportion of tissue is made up of fat, which means if you lose or gain weight, this can change the look and size of your breasts.  How much you lose or gain is dependent upon the amount of fatty tissue you have, and that is a lot to do with genetics.

Your Age

Over time your breasts can lose their elasticity and gravity can take its toll becoming less supportive which may cause dropping or sagging.  Be sure to invest in a well-fitting bra and support them when you can, like during exercise (wear a sports bra) and during breast feeding (wear a feeding bra).

Your Genetics

Your breasts are a complex part of your anatomy, made up of supportive or connective tissue, milk glands and ducts, and fatty tissue. How much of each tissue type you have is unique to you.
There is no secret formula to keeping them perky; genetics play a huge role in the size and shape of your breasts and can influence the level of hormones, which effect breast tissue.
Just as your genes take care of how tall you are and your eye colour, they also have an impact on your breast size, although over your lifetime, your breasts can change shape and size naturally.

We see many women who struggle with the shape or size of their natural breast and look for a little cosmetic help to restore confidence. Ladies who are flat chested who have tried padding, special bras and lotions and potions without success turn to our breast specialist surgeons for advice and help.

Others, who have lost their natural size and shape, miss what they once had and look to restore.
A breast uplift can correct drooping or sagging breasts and restore confidence.
A breast enlargement can enhance a smaller bust, and give an increased size and more symmetrical shape.
If you would like to discuss your options, or book a free consultation with one of our surgeons, please get in touch here.  Alternatively, read through our patient stories to view before and after images and understand more about what prompted surgery.
Breast Enhancement with Fat Transfer.

Breast Enhancement with Fat Transfer.

Breast augmentation procedures are the most popular cosmetic surgery of recent times and continue to increase in popularity among ladies wishing to improve their body image and confidence.

Making the decision to undergo surgery is a huge and carefully thought out one. The traditional surgical procedures of inserting a carefully chosen implant that is perfect for your shape, size and body frame will provide reliable and great results, however, it is not necessarily for everyone. Some of our ladies feel that the idea of an implant is perhaps more than they need, or are worried about scaring and possible long uncomfortable recovery times.

There is an alternative, for those considering a ‘natural’ boob enhancement. Performed by removing your own body fat and transferring it to your breasts to create a fuller, firmer shaped breast, without the size of implants.

Fat Transfer Surgery

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Using liposuction to remove fat from one area of the body; areas targeted for fat removal are usually the abdomen, bottom, thighs or hips. The fat is then filtered and concentrated before being re-inserted into the breast area.   The natural boob job is not as frequently carried out as the implant method breast augmentation, but that said, it really does have many benefits and we are seeing some wonderful results from our specialist Mr Siddiqui.

A great option for our ladies who really don’t want to have implant placement surgery and are looking for a smaller, less noticeable result. Using your own fat to create the fuller shape rather than an implant, you may feel that your breast augmentation has a more natural look; and of course, they will feel like natural breasts to the touch.
This procedure is better suited to you if you are hoping for smaller, less dramatic enhancement of your breasts.

If you have an excess of fat in any other areas of your body, you are a good candidate for fat transfer breast augmentation. Such a natural way to move your unwanted fat to a place you would prefer it be in your body.
If you have recently undergone a lumpectomy, then relocation of a small amount of fat could be used to fill the area where the breast tissue has been removed. On a similar note, we see ladies who feel self-conscious with varying breast sizes, both that are not symmetrical or even.  Fat can be relocated to your breasts to correct any differences between your breast shape or size and create a more even look.

The natural boob job creates a subtle, gentle look to your breast enhancement, creating results without adding an implant to your body – not suitable for ladies looking for a dramatic increase in size.

Are there any downsides?

Whilst it might temptingly feel like potentially a less invasive option than traditional implant augmentation surgery, there are a few things to take into consideration.

Fat is removed from your body by Liposuction. This procedure itself carries some risks and points for you to consider. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure carried out under general anaesthetic. Initially after surgery, you may notice some discomfort and it is common to experience some swelling and bruising to the area where the fat has been removed; this will steadily disappear over a period of time.

As the swelling and inflammation ease some lumpiness and deep bruising may still be visible; in some cases, it may take six to twelve weeks for the swelling to completely settle and the full effect of the liposuction can be seen.  You will need to wear a compression bandage to help maintain pressure to the area, stop any bleeding, supress swelling and helps keep the new body contours created during surgery. Liposuction is not a pain-free procedure and you will go through the recovery process for this, along with the fat transfer breast augmentation; at least six to eight weeks.

You can trust that we will be with you every step of the way, providing continual help, support, advice and pain-relief when you need it. Your recovery will be smooth if you take time to let your body recover and rest; not returning to work for at least two weeks. For all patients, it is important to avoid any overly strenuous activity for 10-12 weeks and that you start all activity post-surgery gently.

Purely because the fat removed is a natural product, results can be less predictable. The transferred fat may not produce the results you were hoping for, it may not settle in exactly the preferred area and the sizing can be less predictable. Sometimes, there isn’t enough fat available to transfer to the breast areas, obviously this is something we would discuss with you before during your complimentary consultation.

Following the procedure, some of the fat will not survive after being re-injected into the breast area, this can alter your results; possibly leaving areas with a bumpy appearance. Fat can also, over time, reabsorb into the body, so you may need to repeat the procedure in the future.

Most important of all is that your procedure is carried out by a qualified and experienced surgeon who is experienced at fat transfer breast augmentation. Here at Red Rose Desire, all of our surgeons and their team are highly qualified and experienced in their field. We welcome all our patients to experience the benefits of our experienced and dedicated team at our modern and welcoming clinics across Lancashire.

The Rise of the Natural Boob Job.

The Rise of the Natural Boob Job.

Natural Breast Implants Manchester

There are many reasons women today look at breast enlargement to enhance their natural body shape; loss of breast tissue volume after weight loss, the effects of childbirth and breastfeeding or simply to add balance and create a symmetrical breast shape. Breast augmentation today offers many new options for your breast cosmetic surgery and here at Red Rose Desire we are keen to help you achieve the natural breast enhancement look you desire to help improve your self-confidence and body image.

Subtle and naturally you

In the past, breast implants were seen as creating a ‘wow factor’ with dramatic results by using larger sized implants. Today, we find that the majority of our ladies are looking for a subtle or natural looking breast enhancement; their goal is for a smooth and natural look to emphasise their own natural breast shape.
Where once a surgeon would put in a similar size in each patient, we are now able to discuss and measure and work with a size that is a perfect fit for you and your body/curves.

Implant shape and size options

Changes and improvements to implants available has increased radically in recent years. Natural looking implant options are a very current trend and at Red Rose Desire we can provide implant options to fit your shape and size.  We often see ladies opting for one or two bra sizes up, this is enough for them, a natural look and enhancing feel.

Teardrop implants are designed to mimic the natural breast shape. As the name suggests the implants are shaped like a teardrop with more fullness in the lower half of the implant; creating a smooth tapered contour of the breast, gently sloping from the breastbone to the nipple. Teardrop implants are a very popular choice and are perfect for ladies looking to enhance their existing breast tissue and would like a more natural look to their breast augmentation.

Round implants can also achieve a natural appearance to your breast augmentation if you already have existing breast tissue and are looking for a fuller or curvier look, emphasising the natural shape that you already have. The type and shape of implants you choose can make a real difference to the outcome of your surgery. At your initial consultation we will work together to create a customised plan for your cosmetic surgery to enable to you to achieve the subtle, natural look you are hoping for.

Both teardrop and round implants are available in silicone gel option. The breakthrough technology used to make silicone gel implants is a strong and safe option with the implant remaining soft and has a very natural feel to the touch.

Techniques

In addition to implant options there are also various surgical techniques and incision options available to help reduce scaring and increase the natural look to your surgery. We want our patients to enjoy the benefits of life-changing cosmetic surgery without the downside of noticeable scarring, so this is a very important part of the choices we will discuss at your initial consultation with us.

For minimal scaring techniques to be effective, the incision is made where the skin has an existing fold, for example, an incision made under the breast at the top of the rib cage, allows the breast itself to cover any scarring from the incision point. Another option is crescent breast augmentation, here the incision is made near the nipple, in a half moon shape. Incisions made to the nipple area also creates minimal visible scarring that fades and blends into the areola over time. A crescent shaped incision made along the top half of your areola (nipple area) in each breast which is ideal for a breast lift and breast augmentation as at the incision point excess skin can be removed and an implant can be inserted to create a naturally uplifted, fuller and youthful looking breast.

Implants and Your Weight Loss Journey.

Implants and Your Weight Loss Journey.

Breast Uplift

Many people opt for cosmetic surgery to improve or enhance their body shape and most often their self confidence.  Each person has a different story and reason for choosing surgery.

We meet many who have felt low for some time, and often, this is down to hard work with weight loss, which then does not result in the end result they desired.  Even to the point where perhaps the only thing left is surgery, removing excess skin or fat, or lifting, enhancing and shaping, to complete the improved body image and look.

How much and when?

During your initial consultation, your surgeon will discuss your goals and hopes for your body image, and together you will decide your correct implant size and shape or enhancement based on your figure and body size at the time.  There are a number of options to consider, whether gently lifting the bust (breast uplift), shaping hips or inner thighs (liposuction) or performing a tummy tuck to remove excess skin/fat/stretch marks, you can be sure that your surgeon is best placed to advise you on the most effective solution.

If you are planning to lose a substantial amount of weight, or have done so, it is important to discuss this with your surgeon at your first consultation. This way, we can look at all options available for you, and ensure that you will love and enjoy your implants/ body transformation for the long-term.

It is recommended that you try and reach, or be as close to, your ideal/goal weight before surgery as this will ensure that you get the best results from your cosmetic surgery procedure, avoiding any unwelcome changes in your new look that you have worked so hard to achieve.

Will losing weight affect my surgery?

Losing a small amount of weight, a few pounds for example, won’t cause any real noticeable change to the appearance of your implant, or liposuction/tummy tuck procedure, however losing larger amounts of weight may make a significant difference and could change the appearance of your results from surgery. Your body could look less in proportion, and implants may look bigger than you originally intended.

Losing weight after breast surgery

After having breast enlargement surgery, you can rest assured that weight loss doesn’t affect the implant itself, changes to the tissue surrounding the implant may go through some changes. If you lose more than 10lbs you may experience implant outlines showing through the skin, causing a less natural appearance. Excessive weight loss may cause your skin to sag and/or your implants to droop.
It is possible that some weight loss could enhance your new post-surgery body and encourage you to continue your new healthy regime and lifestyle.

Gaining weight affect my  breast surgery

Any changes to your weight will mean that your skin must adapt to those changes. A small amount of weight gain won’t affect your implants, but a larger amount of weight gain could lead to stretch marks showing on the skin. Extra fatty tissue may alter the shape, texture and symmetry of any implants; altering the original shape and positioning you had planned.

Too much or too little

If, after having your surgery you lose or gain a larger amount of weight and the changes to your body and implants is very noticeable, you may find that you want to have revision surgery to correct the changes caused by your weight change. Obviously, this is another surgical procedure, so it is better to try and remain the weight you were at the consultation to avoid further surgery.

Managing your weight

We do recommend that you try to maintain your weight and body shape, avoiding big fluctuations in your weight and Yoyo dieting. Eating a balanced healthy diet, avoiding processed food, and drinking plenty of water (avoiding sugary drinks), plenty of exercise to maintain and improve your body shape and strength should all help to keep the shape and size that you wished for from the very beginning of your cosmetic surgery journey.  For more information about making sure the results of your cosmetic surgery are long lasting or if you would like to find out about any of our cosmetic surgery procedures please call our welcoming reception team on 0330 124 4780 or click here for a free consultation.

We look forward to meeting you very soon.
