Individual tailored results are important to each patient we see, and to our team. We believe that you are unique and that each body is different, meaning results vary.
Your complimentary consultations are always carried out with our specialist surgeons, that way you can be sure that you get a good idea of what can be achieved, and how this compares to your expectations. Our surgeons have a duty of care and will always be honest and open with the results you can expect to achieve.
They will also discuss a number of other areas when it comes to being a suitable candidate for tummy tuck surgery.
1. Have you lost a significant amount of weight?
Losing weight is a wonderful achievement, however, often we are left with stubborn areas of fat which cannot be moved, no matter how much exercise you do. Quite often, there will also be lose skin left around your abdomen. This makes you a good candidate for tummy tuck surgery, as the procedure helps to remove loose skin and tighten and tone.
It is important to note however, that tummy tuck surgery is not a weight loss solution and your surgeon will discuss your weight loss plans for the future. It is advisable to only look for surgery once you have reached your goal weight and when you are happy that you do not need to lose any more.
To maintain the results of your tummy tuck, consider a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine. If you are committed to a healthy lifestyle, you are likely an excellent candidate for this procedure.
2. You have overall good health.
Although a tummy tuck is a low risk procedure, we do undergo a number of health checks to ensure you are in good health and have no underlaying health issues which may be effected by anaesthesia.
We will always discuss your health in great detail during your consultation and your surgeon will ask to see any previous notes from your GP where necessary.
3. Have you had a baby, or do you plan on having a baby.
Often following pregnancy, the abdominal skin and muscles are permanently damaged. We have seen several ladies who have reached a healthy weight following pregnancy, however, still struggle with loosely hanging tissue and skin around their tummy. A tummy tuck can repair these tissues, however, you should wait for surgery, if you plan on having more children, as future pregnancies can separate the muscles and re-stretch the skin further.
It is important to note that tummy tuck surgery will not carry any danger to any unexpected pregnancies, or the health of your baby.

Once you have decided that it is something you want to move ahead with, you can choose a surgeon you are happy with, before organising to meet for a consultation. Our group of surgeons are all specialists in their own right and we can talk through each one with you so that making the decision is a little easier. During your consultation you will meet with your surgeon and talk about your goals and desires for your procedure.
If you smoke, your surgeon will ask you to stop at least two weeks before the surgery until two weeks after the surgery. Since smoking makes complications more likely and slows down healing, this is a necessary part and is compulsory – it is not enough to simply slow down, you must stop.

Your surgeon will ask you to drink plenty of water in preparation and eat a nutritious, well-balanced diet. Again, an important stage in helping you heal better. These habits can be continued post-surgery too, to keep your immune system strong. This will also mean you maintain a healthy body weight without too much fluctuation.
We will ask you about any medication you are taking and discuss your physical routines. They may ask you to stop taking certain tablets or vitamins until well after tummy tuck surgery.
Your tummy tuck surgery will go ahead as per your personalised schedule and by removing excess fat and skin, as well as tightening the muscles in your tummy region, your surgery will leave you with a tighter, firmer abdomen
Post-surgery, we ask that you are realistic and plan adequate recovery time. Our surgeon recommends at least two weeks off from daily responsibilities, for rest. It is important that you get help if you have children and avoid heavy lifting or traveling for three weeks following your tummy tuck surgery.
To learn more about what you can do to prepare for tummy tuck surgery, call our experienced co-ordinators to discuss and schedule a complimentary consultation with our specialist team.
