Tummy-tuck surgery or abdominoplasty is a popular surgery, and can offer life-changing results, by removing loose, excess fat and skin and tightening muscles in the abdominal wall. Many women opt for a tummy tuck following pregnancy or weight gain as it can also remove some if not all of the stretch marks in your lower abdomen.

During your tummy tuck recovery, dressings are applied and you may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or a compression garment to reduce swelling and support your abdomen as it heals following surgery. Immediately following an abdominoplasty, expect your abdomen to feel very sore or tender. Any pain you feel can be controlled with pain medications.
Expect to have a longer recovery, due to the position of the wound and nature of movement. Even walking can cause movement and so you must be aware of a little bed rest, and after about a week to be able to stand straight and for most, another week or 2 to get back to most normal activities. We expect you to return to full normality after 2-3 months, however, this is job and person dependant and the time it takes to recover varies greatly among patients.
Common side effects experienced by patients who have undergone a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) include bruising, swelling and some redness. Most of these usually subside in one to two weeks as your body adjusts and the incisions heal. After a few weeks, regaining mobility and fitness becomes important.
During your initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss your cosmetic hopes, your surgeon will discuss your expectations, and suitability for tummy-tuck surgery to be clear about what approach is best for you.
Based on your goals and the surgeon’s training and experience, you can put together a treatment plan, which is tailored to you.
Consultations take place for Tummy Tuck Surgery in our: Manchester Clinic, Bolton Clinic, our Preston Clinic and our Warrington Clinic. Book your complimentary consultation here.

Breast Implants do not last a lifetime and on average, the majority of implants last 10-20 years without complications. Medically, there are patients who are required to change their implants due to certain complications, but mostly, a breast revision is a personal choice, taken by those who choose a change of size or shape and then there are many who do not need replacement implants at all.
Figures indicate that around 20% of women will have their breast implants repaired or replaced within 10 years of the original surgery, which means that four in five are still enjoying the benefits of their implants 10 years are receiving them.
3 signs your implants NEED to be replaced.
Capsule Contracture
Most patients form soft protective scar tissue around their implant, which is completely normal. There are others however, that have issues with hardened scar tissue, a capsule that forms around the implant, tightens, and squeezes the implant causing severe discomfort. Whilst it is not immediately dangerous, the constant dull ache will require the patient to have a revision surgery.
Rupture/Deflation
Although there have been cases or rupture and or deflation, this is extremely rare. If it does occur, however, a revision will be necessary and our breast surgeon team will investigate why or how to prevent this in further surgery.
Movement/Rotation
Implants are not fixed in one position and naturally move to give natural shape and for comfort. However, in some cases, implants can move too far, which can affect the symmetry causing an uneven look and feel.
Patients who opt for anatomically shaped implants can also suffer from rotation–these implants are shaped like a teardrop and can sometimes rotate which will also make them look uneven.
If you are considering an increase to your breast implant, or feel you are suffering from any of the above signs, do reach out to us. Our breast specialists surgeons have great experience with revisions and can offer high-grade implants, which come with a range of warranty options.

Having cosmetic surgery is a life-changing decision and a truly life-altering experience. Looking after yourself following your surgery is a crucial part of your recovery; it can be as important as the surgery itself.
Post-surgery appointments
Making sure that you follow the advice and information given to you by your surgeon and aftercare team will help to ensure you have a safe road to recovery.
It is important that you attend all post-operative appointments. Your surgeon will need to monitor your progress and ensure that you are healing properly. During your aftercare appointments, your surgeon will be able to note any complications or areas that need further care.
It can be tempting to skip appointments if you are feeling fine, but it is important that your surgeon regularly monitors your progress and uses this time to evaluate your results and recognise any potential complications that may not be easily noticed by you. It is also a great opportunity to chat with your surgeon and aftercare team about any concerns you may have and quickly iron out any worries.
Your cosmetic surgery team are very experienced and can be fully trusted to guide you through your cosmetic procedure and aftercare journey. However long your recovery may take, we are here to work with you to achieve the best results possible.
Too much too soon
Allowing you body enough time to rest and heal during the recovery phase is vital if you want to see the long-term benefits of your cosmetic surgery. If you try to get back to your pre-surgery routine too quickly: returning to work, the gym, energetic family activities, housework or carrying heavy objects, may cause damage to the recovering muscles or tissues, wounds and scarring, this may hinder your recovery or you may require further procedures to correct any damage caused.
You should expect to experience some swelling, bruising and soreness following any cosmetic procedure, this can take, days, weeks or months to settle down and it is important that you adhere to the advice, tailored specifically for your procedure, given to you by your surgeon and follow the recovery process before you try to return to your pre-surgery routines and lifestyle. You will need to be patient, but the long-term results will be worth the wait.

Rest, recover, revive
Rest is what the body needs the most post-surgery, it helps the natural healing process and puts you on the right path for a good recovery. Avoiding any vigorous activities and physical stresses can help your body to heal. Try to avoid any stressful situations that cause you to worry; it’s important that you feel relaxed and calm so your body can heal; finding out as much as you can about what to expect from your procedure will help you feel prepared and informed, helping you feel relaxed.
Getting enough sleep is also vital for your aftercare; at least 8 hours sleep each day will be a great benefit to your recuperating body.
Stock up with plenty of healthy, fresh foods prior to your surgery. Giving your body the right amount of nutrients to aid the healing process is a great way to speed up your recovery. Keeping hydrated by drinking lots of fluids is also important for your recovery; choose water and fresh juice, steer away from tea, coffee and other caffeinated drinks, and avoid alcohol.
Help from friends and family
It may be a good idea to arrange with friends and family to come and help you in the first few days or weeks following surgery. The reassurance of someone being there to help in the early days of discomfort or help around the house will be a great benefit and important for your safety and aftercare. If you have young children at home, you may need to arrange help with their care or getting them to and from nursery or school in the initial few days/weeks post-surgery. Feeling comfort in that fact that you have everything arranged and organised will give you great peace or mind and help towards a calm recovery process.
Preparation is the key to great aftercare, but in the event of any issues post-surgery, make sure you know who to contact if you are worried or experiencing any complications after you have left the clinic. We are here for you every step of the way and will support you throughout your recovery process.

Sleep is an incredibly important part of our daily life and plays a huge role in our well-being and general health. When we close our eyes and drift into sleep, our body begins to work to support a healthy brain function and maintain our physical health. After a good night sleep not only do we wake up feeling alert, refreshed and ready for the day ahead, our body is empowered to face any physical and mental challenges we might present it with.

The Power of Sleep
Sleep has amazing health benefits and super-powers. How much and how well you sleep has a big impact on how healthy you are now and in the future.
Sleep contributes to a healthy immune system; in fact, your immune system relies on sleep to remain healthy. Whilst sleeping, your body replenishes the white blood cells that attack bacteria and viruses, helping you fight off any illness and stay strong and healthy. If you are recovering from surgery your body is working hard to heal itself so your white blood cells are vitally important; if you are lacking in sleep this may compromise your body’s ability to fight infection or inflammation following your surgery and hinder a smooth recovery.
If you are preparing for surgery, it makes sense to be in the best possible shape pre-surgery so your body can face the physical challenge ahead; getting plenty of good quality sleep will empower your body to be surgery ready and make a great recovery.
Quality and Quantity
It’s important to not just sleep but sleep well.
During the various stages of sleep, different processes take place that all go towards strength building. One of which is your brain triggering the release of a hormone associated with increased levels of growth; aiding tissue regeneration and repair, this is so beneficial to wound recovery following surgery. Good sleep gives our body the energy it needs to heal and repair itself. During sleep our blood pressure dips, giving our heart muscle a rest, lowering the chance of high blood pressure or heart disease. When tired from not enough sleep, people tend to over-eat and over time this can have longer term effects on your health; sleep levels your hunger hormones and helps regulate eating habits.
We generally need 7-8 hours of regular sleep, but if our sleep is disrupted or cut short, then the body doesn’t get the opportunity to complete all the benefits gained from a good sleep and can hinder your ability recover. We talk to many patients about the importance of sleep and encourage you all to take as much care as possible prior to and after surgery. For you to get back to your pre-surgery routine and start to enjoy the long-term effect of your cosmetic surgery, taking the enough time to rest, recover and renew is essential; a smooth recovery process with plenty of rest and sleep will put you on the right path to start enjoying the new you.
Tricks to a Good Snooze
We all feel that we must keep up with life’s fast pace and keep going no matter how we may feel; slowing down can sometimes feel like a negative thing to do. With the distractions of modern life: social media, work and family pressures it can be hard to “switch off”. However, finding time for a regular rest and sleep pattern in your routine has incredible health benefits.
Here are 4 tips to help you enjoy the health benefits of a good sleep:
1. Stick to a regular sleep schedule and bedtime ritual; your body-clock will find it easier to wind down and sleep if you keep to regular sleep hours.
2. Exercise daily and keeping active can help you sleep well, gentle exercise like Yoga, Pilates or a gentle dog walk.
3. Creating a restful environment, for example, your bedroom temperature, sound and light should be calm, darker and warm. Invest in a good quality mattress and pillow to guarantee your comfort.
4. Avoid late night caffeine or alcohol and turn off all phones, tablets and other gadgets that make you up rather than settle you down.
A well-rested person is more likely to have a speedy healing process and be able to deal with the stresses of recovery. Feel refreshed and energised to start enjoying the new you at the start of a new year.

It is no secret that an active lifestyle can help you to look and feel more body confident, and we are advocates of this.
Stay active, eat well, and live for longer, right?
It is not always that simple…
Busting a gut, staying focussed and working hard to maintain your perfect weight is tough at the best of times.
Choosing to change your lifestyle to get fit, healthy and refine your body shape is inspiring…
but what if you reach your goal weight and you are still not happy with the result?
We see many patients who struggle with low self-esteem and confidence, even after they have lost weight, or joined the gym, mainly due to solving one problem and another occurring. Weight loss can change the size and shape of your breasts, and may result in a huge reduction in size or not much breast left at all. Skin that has been stretched can appear saggy and deflated and nipples can point downwards, rather than towards the front area of the chest wall.
Breast implants can sometimes fill the space where skin has stretched and give you back some size, shape and structure (and cleavage). On some occasions, breast implants, along with a breast uplift is required, to elevate the nipple location and lift the whole breast upwards.
For large, broad-based, and severely sagging breasts, both a breast reduction and breast uplift is advised. This allows excess skin and folds to be removed, before lifting and shaping.
Downtime and Recovery
After the surgery, a compression garment will need to be worn for around 4-6 weeks.
Downtime is usually about 2 weeks, and any bending or heavy lifting should be avoided for at least a month. Swelling should subside in about six or seven weeks, and the breasts will settle into their final shape in a few months.
Exercise After Surgery
As part of your aftercare routine, and to get the best results from your surgery, it is so important to take care of yourself. This includes avoiding vigorous exercise or activities for some time. Although being active throughout your recovery period is not advised, your surgery will not stop you being active in the future and this means you can continue with your previous activity and regain your fitness levels.
Is Breast Surgery Right for You?
If you lack confidence in your body despite achieving fantastic weight loss results, breast implant surgery can be an option to consider. It can be carried out on its own or alongside
breast uplift surgery or
breast reduction surgery, depending on your desired look.
All surgery is unique to you and your body. To get the most out of your surgery, we advise to you come along and meet the breast specialist surgeons, that way you can speak to them about your journey and your hopes and fears.
Our surgeons can talk you through the procedure, your aftercare and expected results during this free consultation.
