Do you, like many, find that no matter how hard you try with closely followed diets and regular visits to the gym, those stubborn, hard to move bulges just will not… budge!
Well, don’t worry, you are not alone, and help is available to achieve the body shape you want and to feel completely body confident.
If you have good general health and fitness and are looking to remove small areas of stubborn fat pockets that are hard to lose through diet and exercise, then Liposuction surgery could be the right choice for you.
Liposuction is a widely used surgical procedure that permanently removes excess fat cells from the body and is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery choices for fat removal.
Liposuction surgery breaks down and removes
excess fat from common problem areas such as, the abdomen, arms, back, buttocks, hips, thighs and let’s not forget the flanks or “love handles”. By targeting these problem areas, your surgeon can focus on refining your body contour by removing unwanted excess fat cells to enhance your body’s natural shape and create a balanced and well-proportioned look.
The procedure is best suited to you if your skin has good elasticity and you are already at or near your ideal weight but finding it hard to remove unwanted fat from the problem areas we have talked about earlier. Liposuction is not a “quick fix” solution to weight loss and the surgery alone will not reduce how much you weigh; the average weight loss following liposuction surgery is between 2 to 3 pounds. The focus is to treat specific areas that are not responding well to diet and exercise, using fat cell removal to permanently sculpt your body creating a slimmer, firmer body shape with smoother contours.
What is involved in the procedure?
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure carried out under general anaesthetic. Although widely considered safe, as with all surgery there are possible risks, but these can be kept to a minimum by taking a few simple measures.
Most important is that your procedure is carried out by a qualified and experienced surgeon, only chose a surgeon who is registered on the General Medical Council (GMC). Being at your best weight and physical shape prior to the surgery will benefit your body during surgery and help a fast and successful recovery. A study by The Royal College of Anaesthetists recommends that tobacco smokers stop smoking at least six weeks before an operation to reduce any postoperative complications. Looking after yourself and ensuring that you are at your best health possible will lower any risk of possible surgery complications and increase the benefits of a successful recovery.
What happens after surgery?
Initially after surgery, you may notice some discomfort and it is common to experience some swelling and bruising, but this will steadily disappear over a period of around one month. As the swelling and inflammation eases some lumpiness and deep bruising may still be visible; in some cases, it may take six to twelve months for the swelling to completely settle and the full effect of the liposuction can be seen.
Your surgeon may fit a compression bandage; this will help maintain pressure to the area, stop any bleeding, supress swelling and helps keep the new body contours created during surgery. The compression bandage should be worn day and night for two weeks then during the day only for another four to six weeks. As a precaution from possible infection you might be prescribed Antibiotics and you will need to keep your wounds clean and protected as instructed by your surgeon.
How long will it take for me to recover?
Postoperative aftercare is an important part of your recovery process and it is important that you treat your body well in this respite period. Recovery is usually quick and although not pain-free, the pain you experience should be manageable with over-the-counter pain-relief medications. Depending on the extent of your surgery, generally you should be able to return to work within a few days and within a couple of weeks you will be back up to your normal pace; more extensive surgery may take a slightly longer recovery time. For all patients, it is important to avoid any overly strenuous activity for 10-12 weeks and that you start all activity post-surgery gently.
Complications arising from Liposuction surgery are highly unlikely but it’s important that you are aware of the risks and discuss them further at your consultation if you have any concerns.
Liposuction removes the fat cells from the targeted area of the body permanently and by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, through exercise and good diet, you will see long-lasting results and it will be easy to maintain your post-surgery body shape.
One of the benefits of Liposuction surgery is that it can kick-start a regular fitness regime and healthy eating style as you feel body confident and enjoy better mobility. A good nutritional diet, giving your body rest and recovery time will help your body to heal well and make a great recovery.
What aftercare is available?
Your aftercare nurse and patient care team will be available throughout your consultation and cosmetic surgery if you have any questions, concerns or need help and advice.

There is a lot to think about when considering cosmetic surgery, especially who is the surgeon? what type of procedure is best? where is the clinic? and how will I pay for it? what financial options are available.
We want you to get to know your surgeon and discuss face-to-face what surgical options there are for you. We always ask that you attend at least two consultations (free) so that you feel totally comfortable with your journey and agree surgery plan. There are a range of cosmetic surgery finance options to suit you and your needs and we will talk through each one in detail so that you can decide which is most suited to you.
Here, we outline three different payment options. Please know that we are always on hand to assist you and make your cosmetic surgery journey easy and straight forward.
Financing Your Cosmetic Procedure.
Turn the cost into manageable monthly repayments, which give you full control over affordability and security. With a loan, you have the ability to change your monthly payments depending on the deposit you can afford. The higher the deposit, the lower the monthly repayment. Before financing breast implants, ensure that you can still cover your existing financial obligations without the need to give up any essentials. If you’re not sure, don’t sign anything until going through your finances or until you manage to find a way to secure the extra money for monthly finance repayments.
We do not offer loans directly, please spend time researching and choosing the best lender to suit you and your circumstances.
Payment Plan Options.
Red Rose Desire offer short or long term payment plans, which allows you to pay a pre-agreed amount each month until your surgery cost has been paid for in full. No extra payments or interest is charged, only the full amount of your procedure divided over a set amount of months, determined by you. Once your payments are complete and the amount settled in full, you are then free to book your surgery placement and move forward with your cosmetic surgery journey. This is an extremely popular option for our patients, as it offers a flexible monthly cost that is affordable for the patient themselves, with no hidden costs.
Who Can Get A Payment Plan?
• Age – over 18 years
Payment In Full.
If you are happy that you have the funds in place, or have spent time saving, you can pay the full cost of your procedure in one payment, with no worries about anything further to pay, or monthly repayments. You will be given one complete price for your surgery, which will cover the procedure itself, and a full aftercare programme, with no extras or payments due later down the line. This gives you complete peace of mind that the one payment covers everything you need.
After your complimentary consultation, we will ask you for a deposit to secure your surgery date. The remainder will be due before your surgery can take place.
We are always here to help.
Speak with one of the team if you are unsure which option is best for you.

Can I Breastfeed after Breast Surgery?
Breastfeeding With Implants. If you are pregnant or planning to have children, you may worry whether your breast implant will affect your ability to breastfeed your new baby. Breast enlargement surgery can be suitable for many ladies and here we discuss the suitability for future or present mothers who are looking to breastfeed their babies, after having implants.
Well, the good news is, it is still possible to breastfeed successfully after breast augmentation and in most cases your implant will not affect breastfeeding. That said, breast implants can affect your ability to produce a full milk supply, so, there are a few points to consider that will improve your chances of problem free breastfeeding.
The main factor that will determine breastfeeding success is the surgery itself; the location of the incision and how the implants are placed.
If the incision is made under the fold of the breast (Inframammary Technique) or under the armpit (Transaxillary Technique), the milk ducts and nerves remain intact and connected to the nipple, this will increase the chance of the milk supply remaining unaffected and is the preferred technique for women planning on future breastfeeding.
Placement of the implant also has an important role in affecting your ability to breastfeed.
For increased milk production and flow, it is preferable for the implant to be placed under the chest muscle; implants placed directly above the chest muscle could place pressure on the glandular tissue and may impede milk production.
For both of these reasons, we always advise you to discuss with your Surgeon during your initial complimentary consultation your desire to breastfeed in the future, and your Surgeon will then be able to consider and discuss with you the surgical procedures most compatible with breastfeeding.
A further consideration is the initial reason for your breast augmentation. If your implant was to enhance small breasts, it could be the case that you may not have had sufficient functional glandular tissue (Breast Hypoplasia), as a result, milk production for breastfeeding may have been an issue prior to surgery and the introduction of implants would not further affect your existing milk supply/production capacity post-surgery. As a result, you could be at a greater risk of having a low breastfeeding milk supply.
Many ladies also ask questions relating to whether the implant will cause any harm to your baby; can materials leak from the implant into the breast milk?
According to many reports and Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, there hasn’t been any clinical reports of problems in babies of mothers with silicone implants.
It is possible that you may experience some breastfeeding side effects that may be heightened due to the introduction of your implants and scar tissue from the surgery: breast engorgement if the milk can’t flow freely from the breast, also, Mastitis may have slightly worse effects for women with implants due to engorgement or scar tissue. These are issues all ladies might experience and there are many ways in which to help and prevent them.
Feeding little and often is a good way to stimulate the milk supply and keep it flowing, and ensuring your baby is latched on correctly, can help you get the most out of feedings.
Remember that often if the supply of amount of milk you produce doesn’t amount to a full feed, any amount of milk you produce if good for your baby, and can be supplemented with powdered milk.
This is true for all mothers, not just those who have had prior breast surgery.
Your cosmetic surgery aftercare nurse and patient care team are available throughout your cosmetic surgery. Your consultation allows you to discuss implants after surgery with your surgeon and the team can work with you to ensure you have all the information you need to make a decision.
You can book in for a consultation in Preston, Bolton, Manchester or Warrington.

We have all heard the saying ‘you are what you eat’ and research shows that by choosing to eat a healthy, balanced diet we can improve and optimise our weight, our mood and our health.
Post surgery, it becomes even more vital to make the right food choices to help with wound healing and recovery. The food choices that you make now can enhance or diminish your results and the time it takes to recover from your procedure. Post Surgery Nutrition is more important than you think.
Cosmetic surgery, even a minor procedure, is a stressful event for the body. Metabolic processes in the body are triggered and go into overdrive in an attempt to repair damaged tissue. Providing your body with the right nutrients to fuel repair is vital. Good nutrition will accelerate healing, improve the appearance of scars, prevent infection and reduce inflammation.
During your recovery it is important to focus on having a balanced, healthy diet to provide all of the varied nutrients that your body needs. This is not the time to go on a restrictive diet or weight loss plan. Nor is it necessary to eat excessive amounts of calories to fuel your body during the recovery process. Focus should be on a diet which consists of a balance of the different food groups, as each provides different beneficial nutrients.
We’ve teamed up with registered dietitian Mairi Wilcock, of Stanner Nutrition Clinic in Preston to ask her expert opinion on what constitutes a healthy post- surgery diet. Mairi says…
One of the most important nutrients to aid would healing is protein. People often overlook protein in normal day to day living, so it needs extra careful consideration in the post- operative period. Good sources of protein are eggs, fish, lean meats, pulses such as lentils and beans and also nuts. Protein foods are often high in Iron, which helps to develop red blood cell production and also zinc, which promotes good wound healing. Make sure you include a small amount of protein with every meal you eat to keep it balanced.
Everyone has heard that we should be eating our 5-a-day of fruits and vegetables, however many people overestimate the amounts that they eat and what a portion size really is. My top tip for meeting fruit and vegetable goals is to try to have a hand sized portion of fruits or vegetables with each meal, and have a couple as snacks. Try to get as wide a variety of fruits and vegetables as you possibly can- the nutrient content in fruits and vegetables is very varied and you will get the best nutrition from eating lots of different kinds. Do not eat 5 bananas a day and think that this is good enough!
Many people try to avoid fat as they think it will make them gain weight and that it is bad for your heart. However fats are important for absorption of some important vitamins, also some fats are anti-inflammatory, helping to reduce swelling and inflammation. Focus on including small amounts of healthy fats in your diet, such as those from olive or rapeseed oil, avocado, oily fish or nuts and seeds.
Many people are confused about whether they should be eating carbohydrate foods because of the increased popularity of low carb diets in recent years. While sugary foods such as sweets, cakes and fizzy drinks should be avoided, it is important to include wholegrain starchy foods such as bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and cereals in your diet. These are a rich source of B vitamins, calcium and iron. They also contain fibre, which will help prevent constipation, which can be a side effect of pain medication after surgery.
Dairy foods have also suffered from recent bad press and are frequently avoided. Dairy foods are a rich source of Calcium and vitamins as well as providing protein. If you choose to avoid dairy it is important to choose a replacement which provides these extra nutrients.

Drinking plenty of water is vital in the post op period, it will help your kidneys to flush out waste from your system, keeps your skin supple during wound healing, helps to prevent constipation and helps blood circulation, promoting good wound healing.
If you feel you would benefit from further detailed nutritional advice, don’t hesitate to contact Mairi at enquiries@stanner-nutrition.co.uk or check out the clinic website at; www.stanner-nutrition.co.uk
Your surgeon will provide you with recovery advice and information and will also recommend reduced activity. It is important to understand that nutrition combined with rest and healing time are the ideal way to recover and as always, your aftercare nurse and patient care team are available for help throughout your cosmetic surgery journey.
